Last Thursday April 26th was Eugene "Geneie" Hassler's memorial service at Fergus Falls and burial at St. Joseph's Pioneer cemetery near Perham, MN. Phil, sister Mary, brother John, and I attended the burial for Geneie. Mary and I wore sparkly Jewelry because Geneie loved bright colors and sparkly things. The four of us had lunch at Dent, MN which is only about 5 miles west of the St. Joe cemetery and we were the first to arrive about a half hour early. Phil took some pictures of the Hassler families resting place. Art and Delores Riestenberg arrived next and we visited with them and Rosie (Hassler) Karsina's son came a few minutes later. It was nice to meet him too! Soon everyone bringing Geneie from Fergus Falls arrived. It was a beautiful sunny day and although the wind was cold, Geneie would have liked how sunny and bright it was as we all formed a circle to say goodbye to him. It was a gentle, joyful goodbye, Sister Helen Hassler said beautiful words and we all blessed Geneie and his resting place by his Mom and Dad with holy water. Then we all held hands and said the "Our Father". It was a very touching goodbye. We love you cousin "Geneie". Then we went to the Station House Restaurant to visit.
An amusing thing happened to brighten everyone's day as soon as everyone parked behind the Station House and started to go in. Phil was getting the camera out so we watched as they went in the door, with Sister Helen and Joe leading the way and a minute later everyone came back out with Sister Helen and Joe leading the way. "Oops, wrong door, we went into a bar" Joe explained. Everyone laughed over that! We all had a wonderful visit over coffee and goodies. It was many years since we've seen each other so it was so good to see everyone again. But here is pictures of us cousins.
