This weekend we observe Memorial Day. I had to look up the meaning to see how this holiday was created. This is what I found. It was first observed to commemorate the fallen soldiers during the civil war. The holiday formerly was called Decoration Day where many folks would visit cemeteries and memorials to honor those people who had died in military service. Now Memorial Day as we call it today has evolved to a more general expression of memory of their deceased relatives in cemeteries whether they served in the military or not. I believe I like this broader view of Memorial Day and I would encourage you all to keep our friends and relatives that have passed in your thoughts this weekend. Some of you have even posted photos of your visits on Facebook this week and I thank you all for sharing this with us. Photo #2: Uncle "Jim" Martin Army Picture. I know these have been posted before but they deserve to be shared again. I would really like to have a picture of our cousin Richard Baillif in uniform someday to add to our military photos. Always remember these are some of the men and women that have allowed us all to live in such a wonderful country and continue to enjoy the freedoms we have everyday.
